I had a hard time getting through this book. Harper is the heroine. She's the sister of Gavin. Gavin was killed in the line of duty. Levi is the hero and he was a soldier along-side Gavin. The story opens at Gavin's funeral. Levi hasn't seen Harper for years, but they grew up together. Gavin and Levi were friends as kids and Harper tagged along and annoyed them. Anyway, at the funeral, Levi tries to give his condolences and the first thing Harper says to him is:
“You son of a bitch. Why couldn’t it have been you?”
And that's how nice she is the rest of the story, too. I did NOT like her. She was described as nice and always fighting for a cause. But, she seemed selfish and clueless. And mean. I never saw her fighting for those causes. She was rude to everyone around her. I don't know what Levi saw in her. He was attracted to her physically, sure. And he felt duty bound to protect her from her stupid self. But somehow he became attached to her, too. I just did not get it.
