Roommating

Roommating (Preston's Mill Book 1) - Noelle Adams, Samantha Chase

I received this as an ARC from the author.

Heather is the heroine. After completing school, she is moving back home to Preston to take over her father's construction business.

Chris is the hero. Heather's father was Chris's mentor when Chris was growing up, so he's close to Heather and her father. The problem is, he picked up and left Preston three years prior (to now) without any explanation. Heather feels that Chris abandoned her father and has hard feelings.

The set up is that Heather's father wants Heather and Chris to co-own the construction company. To prove they can co-own the business without issue, he wants them to live together as roommates for six months. To me, this is an odd setup for a parent to arrange and I think both Heather and Chris should've questioned the motivation.

Heather has serious abandonment issues because her mother left her and her father when she was young. Her parents argued behind closed doors, so she's very sensitive to "secrets". So much so, that she stresses irrationally about people having private conversations. I found it very annoying and it was really the only point of contention in their relationship. But, she seems like mostly a nice person and is forthright in her wants and needs.

Chris is likable. He seems like a really good roommate. He has the patience of a saint. I thought he made a good hero and he proves himself worthy of Heather.

I could've done without the crazy nosy neighbor lady (this type of "odd" character often doesn't work for me).

Having said all of that, I enjoyed this enough that I will purchase it when it's released and I will look for the audible edition.
